The newest piece of Seattle Sounders merch is (finally) one for the sneakerheads. It’s not the first time we’ve seen a Sounders shoe – you can still buy the Sounders Adidas Copas in select sizes – but it’s unquestionably the best one so far.
The team teased the sneakers the day before their release with a cool video on their social media.
The new Sounders sneaker is a special colorway of the Adidas Gazelle, a shoe that’s built up plenty of history and cultural cache since its original release back in 1966. The Sounders version is a white leather sneaker with Rave Green stripes and heel tag, and prominently showcasing the new orca mark from the club’s new visual identity rendered in Pacific Blue on the tongue.
You may have missed it – and you’d be forgiven for doing so – but back at the start of October, Stefan Frei was spotted in the Sounders locker room after the 0-0 draw at Lumen Field against the Vancouver Whitecaps wearing a pair of the new shoes. He credited the team’s Equipment Manager – presumably Mitchell Carnefix – for getting him the shoes well ahead of their public release.
The Gazelle is a shoe with plenty of pitch cred (is this a real phrase or did I just invent a new term for soccer-related street cred? We may never know.). The current options among the silhouette’s offerings include several colorways with football ties. There are several national team-themed styles including Germany and Peru. The Sounders are one of three club teams to receive this treatment, joining Manchester United and Real Madrid.
You can add the Sounders Gazelles to your collection by visiting the MLS Store, and if you use that link Sounder at Heart will get a percentage of all sales.
