Alex Roldan signs extension through 2026
Alex Roldan has signed a contract extension that will keep him under the Seattle Sounders’ control at least through 2026 with an option year for 2027. Roldan was already signed through 2024 with an option for 2025. Roldan will get a raise this year, but the new deal avoids a potentially tricky situation where the Sounders would have had to weigh giving him an even bigger raise when the option was due, a source explained.
“I am thrilled that Alex will continue his already impressive career with Sounders FC,” Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer said in a team release. “He has brought quality since his arrival, always doing what is asked of him and putting the team first. Already an integral member of our squad, I look forward to seeing what he can help us accomplish in the future.”
Roldan joined the Sounders after he was selected with the 18th overall pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft after finishing his collegiate career at Seattle University. Since then, he’s established himself as a starter at right back and regular with the El Salvador national team.
Over the last three seasons, Roldan has made 82 starts for the Sounders and 19 more for El Salvador. He has two goals and 11 assists over the past two seasons.
