OL Reign announced two additional roster moves on Monday, confirming the departure of restricted free agent midfielder Angelina and signing goalkeeper Maia Pérez to a new one-year deal for 2024. Whether Angelina’s destination club is within the NWSL or in another league was not immediately known.
“We want to thank Angelina for her time at the club. She is a consummate professional, particularly for being early in her professional career. She overcame a lot with her injury to get back to form for the club, and to be recalled by her National Team. We wish Angelina all the best ahead of this new chapter, ” said general manager Lesle Gallimore in a team release.
Angelina first signed with the Reign ahead of the 2021 season and made 28 appearances for the club, recording one assist. She missed portions of the 2022 and 2023 seasons with an ACL injury which occurred while on international duty with Brazil in the Copa América final in July 2022 and returned to the field in a substitute appearance against Kansas City in August.
Pérez first joined the Reign in September 2023 after prior stops at Angel City FC and GPSO Issy 92 in France.
“Maia joined us late in the season in 2023 and integrated into our goalkeeper unit very well,” said Gallimore. “She's hardworking and committed to maximizing her opportunity.”
These moves bring the Reign roster to 18 signed players, plus three non-free agents out of contract with whom the team is still discussing new deals, along with four unsigned free agents. A transaction freeze goes into effect from tomorrow at 9 am ET until Saturday, Dec. 16 in preparation for the expansion draft. Protected lists for the draft are also due to the league tomorrow afternoon.
