The Leagues Cup group stage schedule was formally announced on Thursday, revealing that the Seattle Sounders will host Minnesota United on Friday, July 26 and Liga MX side Club Necaxa on Sunday, Aug. 4.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the Round of 32. The winner of the Sounders' group will play the second-place finisher of a group that includes Chivas de Guadalajara, the San Jose Earthquakes and LA Galaxy, while the second-place team in the Sounders’ group will face the winner of that group.
One new wrinkle to the 2024 version of the tournament is that some Liga MX teams were granted “hub privileges,” meaning their games will all be played in one area. Chivas is one of the teams who earned that privilege, which means they’ll play all of their games through the Round of 32 in California. Presumably, that means the Sounders would travel if they’re drawn against them in the Round of 32 regardless of where the teams finish in the group stage. The Sounders could also end up traveling to play Monterrey in the Round of 16. Monterrey earned the right to remain in Texas through the Round of 16.
Sounders season-ticket packages include one of the two games, but it was not immediately clear which of them it would be.
As was the case last season, MLS and Liga MX will pause their seasons in order to focus entirely on this tournament, with the top 3 teams all earning spots in the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup.
