Andrew Thomas solidifies place in Sounders Open Cup lore

RENTON — Andrew Thomas had seen enough.

Fresh off making his third save of the penalty shootout against USL Championship side Louisville City and having watched two of his teammates fail to secure advancement on earlier spot kicks, Thomas took matters into his own hands. Waving off Sota Kitahara, Thomas confidently stepped to the penalty spot with a chance to clinch a spot in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16.

With a nearly straight run-up, Thomas went with all power over placement, blasting his shot past opposing goalkeeper Danny Faundez, who barely even had a chance to react.

Thomas then peeled off into an epic celebration of fist pumps and primal screams, racing past his teammates, who eventually mobbed him.
