LINEUPS: The Sounders seem to be rolling out a 3-4-2-1 with Reed Baker-Whiting and Cristian Roldan at wing backs.
Coming off arguably their most complete performance of the season, the Seattle Sounders will be trying to start their first winning streak of 2024 when they face the Houston Dynamo tonight. Despite playing on short rest, the Sounders should be about as close to full strength as they’ve been all year. The only players who they are likely to be missing are Alex Roldan (concussion) and Pedro de la Vega (hamstring).
The Dynamo are currently on a three-game unbeaten streak, which includes consecutive road draws against Atlanta United and the Portland Timbers. They are slightly short-handed, though, with Coco Carrasquilla on international duty with Panama.
Like they were last year, the Dynamo are a very possession-based team. They rank third in MLS with an average of 57.6% possession, while also completing the third most passes per sequence. On the flip side, they don’t get out in transition much, with just 15 direct attacks (second fewest) and the slowest attacking speed.
Although the Sounders have not been a prolific counter-attacking team, they do seem to be at their best when they do get into transition.
Notes
- Jordan Morris has been heating up lately, scoring four goals in his past five games.
- The Sounders are 5-2-1 in MLS play on the road against the Dynamo since Brian Schmetzer took over as head coach in 2016. They had been 0-4-3 in Houston prior to that.
- The Sounders are tied for the most corner kicks in MLS (109) but have yet to score off of one. They have scored three goals off of free kicks, however.
