SOUNDERS 2, UNITED 0: After missing a similar chance earlier in the half, Paul Rothrock converts a Léo Chú cross at the backpost.
SOUNDERS 1, UNITED 0: Jordan Morris scored his fourth goal in five games, heading in a free kick from Albert Rusnák in the 29th minute. The team then staged a full-team celebration where they sat in a circle and seemed to mime playing cards.
PREGAME TIFO: ECS unveiled a full-stadium tifo that was highlighted by massive Brougham End banners that read “Duwamish Sown, Seattle’s Own, Cascades to Sea, Sounders FC.”
LINEUPS: Jordan Morris moves to the No. 9 spot, while Raúl Ruidíaz drops to the bench in favor of Léo Chú at left midfield.
The Seattle Sounders will be looking to get back on track and will have several dozen alumni in attendance as motivation. Their match against Minnesota United marks the club’s 50th anniversary, with a pregame ceremony inducting the 1974 NASL squad into the new Circle of Legends.
Minnesota comes into the match as one of the surprise performers of 2024, sitting third in the West with 29 points through 16 matches. They will be missing a few key players, though, including breakout winger Tani Oluwaseyi, forward Teemu Puki and goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair.
The Sounders, meanwhile, are as healthy as they’ve been all year. Aside from Pedro de la Vega just about everyone should be available after Jon Bell and Nathan got through a full week of training.
The Sounders also have a bit of history on their side, having beaten Minnesota all eight times they’ve visited Lumen Field.
Notes
- The match will include a celebration of the Sounders’ 50th Anniversary, which includes a pregame ceremony honoring the 1974 NASL squad, who will be inducted into the new Circle of Legends.
