Talent evaluators within the Seattle Sounders organization have long believed that Obed Vargas would be the first player to come through their developmental system and be transferred abroad for a significant fee. That time may be soon approaching.

Fresh off switching his national team allegiance to Mexico and obtaining his Mexican passport, interest from Liga MX has started to heat up, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

Vargas, who turns 19 in August, has been enjoying a bit of a breakout season. Through 21 matches, he has already set career-highs for minutes played (about 1,600), goals (1) and assists (4) while establishing himself as a regular starter and blossoming into a the solid two-way midfielder the Sounders have long envisioned him becoming.
