With sympathy for our European internationals for whom it is always tournament time, summer has arrived and so begins trophy season. While the Reign gear up for the inaugural NWSL x LIGA MX Femenil Summer Cup (the NWSLXLMXFSC if you will), six of our own are looking for hardware in the Olympics, Euros qualifying, and the U-20 World Cup.

Canada

Forward Jordyn Huitema and midfielder Quinn have been selected to represent Canada as they seek to defend their Olympic title. Canada has historically performed well in the Olympics, having made it out of the group stage in all four of their appearances and reaching the podium in the last three. Both Huitema and Quinn will return to familiar territory in France as both played for Division 1 Féminine clubs before their time in Seattle. They will begin their Olympic campaign against New Zealand on July 25th (full schedule below).

Wales

Defender Lily Woodham and midfielders Jess Fishlock and Angharad James-Turner will return to the Welsh national team to wrap up the group stage of qualifiers for the 2025 UEFA Women’s Euros. Wales are currently one point behind first-place Croatia in group B4 after drawing with Ukraine twice last month. Though Cymru has already secured a spot in the play-off round, winning the group would lock in an advantageous seeded position. Their final two group-stage games are against Croatia and Kosovo, two teams that they defeated emphatically earlier this year.

USA U-20 YNT

Forward Emeri Adames will report to the US Under-20 Youth National Team camp in Athens, Georgia, where the team will play two friendlies against Mexico’s U-20 team. This is the last camp before head coach Tracey Kevins names the 23-player roster for the 2024 U-20 Women’s World Cup. Adames’ experience, attacking versatility, and recent form make her a valuable prospect. She previously represented the US in the 2022 U-17 World Cup and has been a standout for the U-20s this year, scoring and assisting in a recent friendly against Korea Republic. The 18-year-old rookie is one of two players on the U-20 roster who have scored in the NWSL.
