Sounders deal international roster spot for 2025 GAM
The Seattle Sounders traded one of their two remaining unused international roster spots to Atlanta United in exchange for $100,000 of 2025 General Allocation Money on Monday. That leaves the Sounders with a total of three international roster spots, with Braudilio Rodrigues and Pedro de la Vega currently occupying two of those spots.
Based on Sounder at Heart’s accounting, the Sounders have acquired $525,000 of GAM that is earmarked for the 2025 season through a variety of trades. Earlier this year, they acquired $350,000 in 2025 GAM from LAFC in exchange for two international spots and another $75,000 in 2025 GAM from the New England Revolution in the Xavier Arreaga trade, which also netted them a 2025 international roster spot.
This move likely doesn’t tell us much about the Sounders’ intentions this year. While it remains unlikely that they were ever going to sign two internationals this summer, they could theoretically still open a second spot if they were to put Braudilio on the season-ending injury list. Braudilio has not yet made an appearance this year while dealing with a series of muscle injuries and recently had a setback while playing for Tacoma Defiance.
