Quotes
SOUNDERS FC HEAD COACH BRIAN SCHMETZER
On the match:
“Well, look, I mean, here is what I want to say, a couple of big events here. Stef Frei is tied to Kevin Hartman for 112 shutouts. That is a big deal. Albert is up to 11 assists. It was Jonathan Bell's first goal for the club. I mean, there are a lot of positives, but what I really want to say about the team, what I am really excited about, and what I hope our fans are excited about is, I mean, Saturday is such a big game against LAFC. We need to get, everybody needs to come out and show up, I know it is summer in Seattle, but this is a massive game for us. We have only lost twice in 18 games, all competitions, we have only lost twice, and that is pretty darn good if you asked me. So, what I would tell you is that the team is playing well, it’s exciting. I know we should have scored maybe a third goal, but the team is playing well, it is exciting. I hope to see all my friends there. It is a big game on Saturday, and I am excited for it and fired up. I am fired up because LAFC has taken two results which have not been up to what they want so it’s shaping up to be a big game.”
SOUNDERS FC GOALKEEPER STEFAN FREI
On tying Kevin Hartman for second-most shutouts in MLS history:
“We had a decent amount of shutouts last year and this year we were struggling at the beginning [of the season] and I was like I don’t know what changed, we got to get back to those days and those ways. I’m happy to have been able to play for so long. Obviously it’s a testament to all the players that I’ve been able to play with. I’ve said it before I think shutouts are extremely fragile. You can absolutely dominate a game and be winning a game 3-0 and then one mental lapse by a team and that shutout is gone. It’s a testament for the guys I’ve been able to play with and I think the pride they take in it as well. Today is a perfect example. We’re up 2-0 and then we’re not letting down, we’re wanting that shutout. Not just for me, but for us as a unit. Commend the effort today and super happy with the result.”
SOUNDERS FC DEFENDER JON BELL
On getting more minutes as the season has gone on:
“It’s not my first time sitting on the bench for a little bit, you just have to wait for your opportunity. And when your opportunity comes you just got to take it and run with it, and like I said before just keep my head down and stay humble and keep working hard.”
