Just as they did last week with midfielder Sam Meza, Seattle Reign on Monday announced that they have extended the contract of forward McKenzie Weinert through 2025 while simultaneously loaning her to a USL Super League club for a fee – in this case, Spokane Zephyr FC. Weinert’s loan starts immediately and will run through the end of 2024. This move was necessary for the Reign to regain roster compliance after they announced the signing of Ana-Maria Crnogorčević earlier on Monday.

“Kenzie has shown her commitment to improve as was evident in her time in Australia. This loan to Spokane is one where we see her continuing to refine her game even further,” said Seattle Reign FC General Manager Lesle Gallimore in a team release. “We look forward to seeing her progression and bringing her back for another season in 2025.”

Weinert, who completed her college soccer career at the University of Washington after starting at Oregon State, originally joined the Reign as a National Team Replacement Player during the 2023 season, where she made three appearances across all competitions. She then went on to play last winter for Melbourne Victory in Australia’s A League, scoring 5 goals in 17 games, before returning to the Reign and signing a full contract ahead of the 2024 season. She made four regular-season appearances off the bench and started two Summer Cup games for Seattle this season.
