Seattle Reign transfer Luany to Atlético Madrid
Seattle Reign announced on Friday that the club has agreed to the permanent transfer of midfielder Luany to Atlético Madrid of Liga F in Spain. According to Ride of the Valkyries sources, Atlético paid the Reign a transfer fee of approximately $87,000, plus a sell-on clause for any future transfer. The Brazilian was contracted with the Reign through 2025.
In August 2023, the Reign loaned Luany to Madrid CFF for the 2023/24 Liga F season. At Madrid CFF, she started in 19 of 26 games played, recording six goals and five assists. The 21-year-old ranked fourth on the team in goals and second in assists. With the move to Atlético Madrid, Luany follows her Madrid CFF coach Víctor Martín, who was announced as Atlético head coach in late July. She will also link up with Brazilian forward Gio Queiroz, her teammate at Madrid CFF for the last half of the season.
"It is an important club full of history, and I am very happy for this opportunity," Luany said in an Atlético Madrid press release announcing her signing through 2027.
Luany will have a chance to build on that history and play in the UEFA Champions League with Atlético, who qualified for the first round of the tournament after finishing third in the 2023/24 Liga F season.
"Seattle Reign would like to thank Luany for her time with the club and wish her nothing but the best as she moves to Atlético Madrid on a permanent basis,” said Reign General Manager Lesle Gallimore in a club statement. “She is a bright young talent who has found an environment that suits her personal and professional goals and we've been supportive in accommodating her desire to stay in Liga F in Spain."
The midfielder began training with the Reign in April of 2023 after transferring from Grêmio FBPA of Série A. Despite not making her NWSL debut, Luany was available for selection six times with the Reign.
