Sounders will face LAFC in Leagues Cup quarterfinals

The Seattle Sounders will host LAFC in the Leagues Cup quarterfinals on Saturday at 5 PM, it was announced on Tuesday. The Sounders clinched their spot by beating Pumas UNAM 4-0 on Monday, while LAFC beat the San Jose Earthquakes 4-1 on Tuesday. Tickets for the match are already on sale.

This will be the second of three meetings across three competitions between the Sounders and LAFC over the course of about five weeks. LAFC beat the Sounders 3-0 in regular-season play on July 20, the final game either team played before the start of Leagues Cup. They are also scheduled to play in the U.S. Open Cup semifinals on Aug. 27.

The winner of this match will be guaranteed to play at least two more Leagues Cup games. The first of those matches will be a semifinal against the winner of Club America-Colorado Rapids. If Club America wins, the semifinal will be played in California. If the Rapids win, the semi would be held in Seattle or Los Angeles.

The winner of that semifinal would then advance to the final, where one of the Columbus Crew, New York City FC, Philadelphia Union or Mazatlan will be waiting. The loser will be play in the third-place game against one of those teams as well.

Among the remaining teams on the Eastern side of the bracket, the Sounders would host either New York City or Mazatlan, but would need to go on the road if they’re matched against the Crew or Union.
