The Tacoma Defiance fell 3-1 to the Vancouver Whitecaps 2 on Saturday, getting a goal from Snyder Brunell. The Defiance were a bit wasteful in front of goal, squandering several good scoring chances. This was the first time in five meetings that the Sounders had lost to the Whitecaps.
Highlights
Key Performers
Synder Brunell: Not necessarily known as an offensive-minded player, it’s notable that the midfielder scored his third goal of the season. This one came on a well-taken shot from about 22 yards out after a turnover he helped create. He also completed 73/82 passes, created two more chances, was 3/3 on tackles, and was 5/10 on duels. Just another very solid performance.
Chris Aquino: The midfielder squeezed off five shots in just one half of play and probably should have had an assist when he found Tino Lopez at the back post on a corner kick, but ultimately had nothing to show for his efforts. You’d like him to be a bit more clinical in front of goal than he was in this one and he was basically a non-presence defensively. Still, this could be seen as progress as he was at least assertive with 27/32 passing in addition to those shots.
Mohammed Shour: Giving up three goals is obviously not ideal and he surely could have commanded his box a bit better, but he did make three saves and at least one was very well done. He was also 16/19 passing, which included 4/7 on long balls. Keeping in mind that this is a 16-year-old goalkeeper and it’s not hard to see why he’s so promising.
