The Seattle Sounders’ 2025 just got a bit more crowded.
Thanks to the LA Galaxy winning MLS Cup, the Sounders have earned a spot in the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup. The Galaxy had already earned a spot in the CCC thanks to their regular-season finish, and the Sounders were the team who finished highest in the Supporters’ Shield standings who had not already qualified.
Interestingly enough, that’s the same way the Sounders qualified for the 2022 Concacaf Champions League that they eventually won.
The 2025 CCC draw is scheduled for Tuesday. This will be the Sounders’ first involvement in the tournament since it expanded to 27 teams. The Sounders will enter the tournament in Round One, which is supposed to start in February. They will be one of the eight teams in the “higher-seed” pot and will be drawn against one of the 11 lower-seeded teams. The first four rounds of the tournament are two legs with the final now a single game played at the home of the team with the highest seed.
This is the eighth time the Sounders have qualified for the continental championship. The Sounders are already the all-time leader among MLS teams in both Concacaf appearances (7) and matches (50). The Houston Dynamo are second in appearances (6), which the Galaxy (5), Columbus Crew (5) and Sporting KC (5) will tie next year.
