LA Galaxy vs. Sounders: Gamethread
LINEUPS: Nathan and Georgi Minoungou will get rare starts as the Sounders move back to a 4-2-3-1 formation for their Western Conference final against the LA Galaxy. Yeimar Gomez Andrade was deemed fit enough to make the bench. The most notable element to the Galaxy lineup is Marco Reus getting the start.
The Seattle Sounders can earn the right to host MLS Cup by beating the LA Galaxy in the Western Conference finals today. It won’t be an easy task. The Galaxy tore through the first two rounds of the playoffs, winning their three matches by a cumulative score of 15-3. They are also 16-0-4 across all competitions at Dignity Health Sports Park this season.
Making the task just a bit tougher, the Sounders will be a little short-handed as Paul Rothrock has been declared out for the season and Yeimar Gomez-Andrade is questionable for this game. Nouhou, after missing the previous game, appears to be back, however.
The Galaxy are pretty much at full strength.
Notes
- This is the fifth time the Sounders have faced the Galaxy in the MLS Playoffs, but the first time since 2015. It’s also the third time they’ve played in the conference finals. The Sounders have won just one of the previous four encounters.
- Jordan Morris’ goal against LAFC was his ninth career playoff goal, tying him with teammate Raúl Ruidíaz for the most among active players.
- This will be the fourth time the Sounders have played the Galaxy in all competitions this year. The Sounders are 1-1-1.
- The Sounders have now advanced to the conference finals seven times since joining MLS in 2009. Only five teams have gotten this far more time.
