The Seattle Sounders took the first significant step of the offseason on Wednesday, announcing their year-end roster decisions. As expected, the club exercised their options on Reed Baker-Whiting, Jonathan Bell, Jacob Castro, Léo Chú, Braudilio Rodrigues and Paul Rothrock. They also declined their options on Sota Kitahara, Nathan and Dylan Teves, while João Paulo, Raúl Ruidíaz and Albert Rusnák are all out of contract.
Along with the 16 players who were already under contract for 2025, the Sounders now have 22 players under contract heading into the offseason. They remain in discussions. with Rusnák and João Paulo.
“While this organization measures itself in trophies, I’m proud to say we competed and advanced deep into every competition available to us in 2024,” Sounders GM Craig Waibel said in a press release on Wednesday. “We now look ahead to 2025, a massive season filled with tremendous opportunities for this club.”
The next big decision point in the offseason will come one week from today when the team must release its list of players they want to protect from the Expansion Draft, during which San Diego FC will select a total of five players.
