The Seattle Sounders are in serious talks with FC Dallas about acquiring Jesus Ferreira in a trade, sources have told Sounder at Heart. It was not immediately clear what the Sounders would be giving up in the move, but it is believed that it hinges on their ability to sign the 23-year-old forward to a contract extension. Ferreira, who is currently classified as a Young Designated Player, is currently in the final guaranteed year of his contract with an option for 2026.
Ferreira is coming off a bit of a down year with just five goals and six assists in less than 1,400 minutes. Ferreira missed about two months with a muscle strain, but had been relatively healthy prior to that.
While he played mostly as a No. 10 last year, he’s had significant success at the No. 9 as well as on the either wing and would help the Sounders with flexibility.
Even after a down season, Ferreira has been considered one of the top young attacking talents in MLS for several years. As a 21-year-old he enjoyed a breakout season when had 18 goals and six assists in less than 2,700 minutes. Ferreira followed that up with a 12-goal, six-assist season in 2023. He now has 53 goals and 34 assists in his young MLS career, in addition to 15 goals in 23 appearances with the United States national team.
