Antigua vs. Sounders: Highlights, stats, quotes

The Seattle Sounders opened their season with a somewhat stressful but ultimately satisfying 3-1 road win over Guatemala’s Antigua in Round One of the Concacaf Champions Cup on Wednesday. They got goals from Paul Arriola – who set a club record for fastest goal in a debut – Pedro de la Vega and Albert Rusnák. Jesus Ferreira, Obed Vargas and Georgi Minoungou also picked up assists.

The three-goal outburst puts the Sounders in a very advantageous position for the second leg as it allows them to advance even in the situation of a 2-0 loss. Any one-goal loss or better would also see them through to the next round where Mexican giant Cruz Azul awaits.

Before that, though, they’ll have one day of light training before their MLS season opener against Charlotte FC on Saturday.
