Seattle Reign announced Lee Nguyen as a new assistant coach on Friday. Nguyen, who holds a USSF B license, was most recently an assistant coach with Angel City FC and is entering his fifth year as a coach. He is filling a new position as part of a group of new hires which will expand the club’s coaching, technical and front office staff for the 2025 NWSL season.
“I’m honored to join Seattle Reign FC and be a part of this globally respected and established club,” said Nguyen in a team release. “This is an organization known for its high standards, competitive spirit and incredible culture, and I’m excited to contribute to the team’s success. I can’t wait to get started and work alongside this talented group.”
As he was winding down a 17-year pro playing career spent in MLS and overseas, the Texas native got his coaching start as an assistant with the Washington Spirit in 2021, the year they won the NWSL Championship. He also spent 2022 with the Spirit before moving on to the KC Current under Matt Potter and Caroline Sjöblom in 2023 and Angel City under Becky Tweed in 2024.
“It's a pleasure to welcome Lee Nguyen to our technical staff at Reign FC,” said Reign General Manager Lesle Gallimore. “His wealth of experience across the NWSL makes him a valuable addition as we continue building out our First Team side. Lee's coaching expertise, combined with his high-level playing career, will play a key role in player development and strengthening our team's pursuit of victories and a championship this season.”
In addition to Nguyen’s position and several other new dedicated Reign positions, earlier this month the Sounders and Reign also announced the appointment of Nick Forro as VP of Ticket Sales and Hospitality for both teams; Liz Poerner as VP of Partnership Marketing; and a reorganized business operations team, including a new Fan Engagement department which aims to improve the live match experience; an integration program focused on aligning both teams and organizational goals; and an expanded marketing group which is hiring for a Chief Marketing Officer and for new positions focused on audiovisual content, branding and consumer products.
