Reign players head on international duty as preseason continues
After three weeks of training in the chilly Pacific Northwest, Seattle Reign is heading to warmer weather this week to prepare for the Coachella Valley Invitational. The Reign will face Bay FC on Sunday, Feb. 16 and Angel City FC on Saturday, Feb. 22. The first match will air on Fox 13+ at 1 PM PT and the second match should also air on Fox 13+ at 12 PM PT, pending confirmation.
The preseason tournament won't feature the entire Reign roster, as it falls during a FIFA international break that will see up to seven players depart to join their national teams.
Lynn Biyendolo (formerly Williams) will join the United States for the SheBelieves Cup, which takes place Feb. 20-26. The U.S. will face Japan (#8 in the current FIFA Women’s World Rankings), Australia (#15) and Colombia (#21). The winner of the tournament will be determined by total points. The first tiebreaker is overall goal difference, followed by the most goals scored, head-to-head result, and Fair Play points. Former Reign goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce will join the USWNT for training but wasn't named to the active SheBelieves Cup roster.
Jordyn Huitema and Canada (#6) will compete in the Pinatar Cup — facing China PR (#17), Mexico (#31), and Chinese Taipei (#42) in Murcia, Spain. All three games will air on OneSoccer and be available online at OneSoccer.ca, which is likely only available to Canada-based viewers.
Wales' (#30) roster for the UEFA Women's National League has not been released, but Jess Fishlock and Angharad James-Turner should both be on the final list for the matches – along with Lily Woodham, who is currently on loan to Crystal Palace. Wales, which qualified for the UEFA Women's EURO tournament this summer for the first time, faces Italy (#13) on Feb. 21 and then hosts Sweden (#5) on Feb. 25. Fishlock will host some camps in Cardiff while she's home.
Ana-Maria Crnogorčević and Switzerland (#23) are also competing in the UEFA Women's Nations League. The tournament should be vital preparation for Switzerland, which is hosting the UEFA Women's EURO competition this summer. The Swiss women host Iceland (#14) on Feb. 21 and then travel to Norway (#16) on Feb. 25.
While a final roster hasn't been shared, Nérilia Mondésir is expected to join her Haiti (#54) teammates in Morocco for a camp that runs Feb. 17-26. The Haiti captain will lead her side to a friendly against Morocco (#61) on Feb. 25.
Ji So-yun and Korea (#20) will play in the 2025 Pink Ladies Cup in Dubai. They will face Uzbekistan (#51) on Feb. 20, Thailand (#45) on Feb. 23, and India (#69) on Feb. 26.
All players will be back with the Reign for the club's final preseason match. On Saturday, March 8, at 6 PM PT, the Reign will take on the University of Washington women's soccer team at Husky Soccer Stadium. The match is open to the general public, with tickets on sale now. There will be no livestream.
