Veronica Latsko placed on season-ending injury list

Seattle Reign confirmed on Wednesday that forward Veronica Latsko tore her Achilles tendon and will be placed on the season-ending injury (SEI) list. The injury occurred during the second half of the Reign's first preseason match of the Coachella Valley Invitational against Bay FC.

“We’re absolutely gutted for Veronica,” said head coach Laura Harvey in a team release. “She has proven over her career to be resilient, diligent and hard working on the pitch, we know how much preparation she had put in for this season. While this is a tough setback, we have no doubt she’ll attack her recovery with the same determination and resilience she brings to the pitch every day. Our entire club will be behind her every step of the way.”

"As much as I would give anything to be on the field with my team this season, I truly believe this all happens for a reason," Latsko said in an Instagram post about the injury. "And even though I’m a blubbering mess while writing this, I can’t help but smile for all that I’ve been given in this life. Thank you for all of the love and support—I’m so lucky to have such incredible people in my life."

Latsko joined the Reign in the 2022 season and quickly won over fans with her work rate and energy on the field. In the 2023 playoffs, she scored back-to-back game-winning goals to help the Reign advance to the NWSL final. The veteran attacker has appeared in 108 regular season matches, registering 15 goals and seven assists.

Speaking to Ride of the Valkyries following the Coachella Valley Invitational, Harvey said that the club is now focused on "making sure that she's taken care of in any way that she needs to be."
