Nicolás Lodeiro has signed a contract with the Houston Dynamo through the end of 2025, Sounder at Heart has learned.

With Orlando City exercising his buyout option in order to free Lodeiro’s salary from their budget, the Dynamo would only be responsible for a fee slightly over Major League Soccer’s league minimum. He will potentially face the Sounders at least twice this year, including a game at Lumen Field on March 22.

Getting an experienced midfielder with the caliber of the “Charrua” on that sort of deal, looks to be a good acquisition by Ben Olsen’s team. But it was also a move the Seattle Sounders were also given a chance to make. Sources with knowledge of his move have also shared that the only reason Dynamo were able to cash in on this deal was that the Sounders rejected the same offer.

According to our source, “Lodeiro had a deep desire to finish his MLS career in Seattle but despite his efforts and after several attempts to negotiate with his former club, Sounders showed no interest in bringing him back, regardless of the low-salary implications.”
