Seattle Reign announced on Tuesday that they have signed midfielder Sally Menti to a short-term contract through June 2025. This is the Seattle native’s first professional contract after a standout collegiate career at Santa Clara University. She spent much of preseason training with the Reign and made a cameo appearance at the end of their preseason match against the University of Washington.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Sally Menti to our roster,” said Seattle Reign General Manager Lesle Gallimore in a team release. “I’ve known Sally since her youth days and have followed her closely throughout her standout college career at Santa Clara. Her quality in the midfield fits seamlessly with our style of play. She’s creative, has great vision and technical ability. She’s shown during preseason that she can make an impact at this level.”
Menti was part of SCU’s 2020 NCAA Championship team and was named to the All-West Coast Conference team several times. She has also represented the United States at several levels of the youth national team system, including as part of the U-20 USWNT during the 2022 Concacaf Women’s U-20 Championship and 2022 U-20 Women’s World Cup, during which year she was also nominated for US Soccer Young Female Player of the Year.
As part of the new CBA with the NWSL Players Association, the league recently created several short-term contract designations, which allows teams to sign players to minimum salary deals of at least 1 month and not longer than the remainder of the season and to not count against the roster limit. These short-term contracts include national team replacement players and replacements for players with other extended absences.
