SEATTLE — The Seattle Sounders drew the Houston Dynamo 0-0 in front of 31,293 at Lumen Field on Saturday. While Nico Lodiero didn't get his revenge, dropped points at home feels like a letdown. The Houston Dynamo were missing significant pieces of their starting roster due to international duty and had to go down to their 4th string, 20-year-old, goalkeeper making his debut.
Defensively the Sounders were solid, even when they got stretched as they pressed forward for a goal late they staved off Houston's attack. Jon Bell looked confident and stout getting another start at center back in what continues to be one of the best defenses in the league.
Starting up top in the No. 9 spot Jesus Ferreira was unable to find the back of the net or even to record a shot. Building chemistry around him in that position will be key moving forward. Later in the match, Ferreira was joined by Danny Musovksi in a dual striker formation, where he seemed to settle in and feel more comfortable with more space on the wing. Even with attacking substitutions late in the second half the Sounders couldn't gain much momentum.
The question continues to be who will lead the offense for Seattle with Jordan Morris and Pedro De La Vega out due to injury.
Key moments
13' - A JP turnover leads to a shot over the bar from Houston's Junior Urso.
31' - Yeimar cuts out a chance from Houston's Sebastian Kowalczyk
37' - A cross from Alex Roldan lands at the feet of Albert Rusnak who lays it off for Joao Paulo who shoots it high over the bar.
42' - Albert pulls back a shot to make a pass to Alex Roldan and it is saved by the Houston goalkeeper.
60' - A cross from Paul Rothrock is deflected by a Houston defender inches away from an own goal.
61' - Paul Rothrock scores off a volley but is flagged offside.
70' - Houston's Junior Urso receives a yellow for foul on Georgi Minoungou.
78' - Houston's Daniel Steres receives a yellow for foul on Georgi Minoungou.
81' - A shot from Georgi Minoungou is saved and rebounded to Rothrock who volleys a shot over the bar.
89' - Jesus Ferreira is sprung in on the left but his attempt is blocked by Houston's Femi Awodesu.
Quick thoughts
- Georgi Minoungou is getting tripled teamed when he is on the ball, teams seem to be taking notice of his ability.
- The Sounders were able to hold a clean sheet even after getting spread, the defense seems to be settling in and shaking off early season rust.
- Not all draws are created equal and this one felt like two teams slogging out injury and international break.

Player spotlight
Nico Lodiero — One of the greatest players to ever do it in Seattle. If you ask me, build the statue. Welcoming Nico home with a full stadium and a pre-match reception was beyond deserved. While it was reported earlier this season Nico had interest in coming back to Seattle, tonight felt just as dignifying. So thank you Nico for all the amazing memories you have brought to me and other sounders fans, and thank you Nico for not scoring on us tonight.
