Fresh off their 2-1 win over USL League One side Spokane Velocity, the Tacoma Defiance found out on Thursday they’ll be hosting the USL Championship’s Oakland Roots in the third round of the U.S. Open Cup.
That match will be played on April 15 at 7:30 PM, and will almost certainly require the Defiance to reschedule an MLS Next Pro road match against Houston Dynamo 2 that is scheduled for the same day.
Assuming the Dynamo 2 match is moved, the Defiance should come in reasonably well rested. They have a home match against Vancouver Whitecaps 2 this Sunday and then a road game against LAFC2 the following Thursday. That would give them at least four days off before the Open Cup match.
The Roots will be coming in on two fewer days of rest after having played at FC Tulsa on April 12.
The Defiance were placed in a group which also includes USL-C team Sacramento Republic and amateur team El Farolito, meaning they’d play the winner of that match if they were to advance.
