The Seattle Sounders will be looking to snap a four-game winless run when they visit FC Dallas, a place they’ve historically struggled to get results. The Sounders are just 1-9-5 in their last 15 trips to Frisco across all competitions.

This match will also be a double-revenge games of sorts, with Jesús Ferreira facing his boyhood club for the first time ever and Léo Chú facing the Sounders for the first time.

Here’s what you need to know:

Injury news

Sounders

OUT: Paul Arriola - Knee; Alex Roldan - Quad; Albert Rusnák - Adductor

Dallas

OUT: Marco Farfan - Legs; Geovane Jesus - Knee; Sebastian Lletget - Upper Leg; Paxton Pomykal - Knee

Opposition players to watch

  • Lucho Acosta: There’s no way around that one of the offseason’s biggest transfers — and a perpetual MVP contender — is going to be a player you need to account for. Acosta hasn’t quite picked up where he left off, but he does have three goals while conducting most of FC Dallas’ business
  • Petar Mussa: The Croatian was a bit of a mixed bag last year, but with Acosta now feeding him, he’s been on a tear. It’s not just the three goals, he also has three assists and he’s looking like one of the top No. 9s in all of MLS.

Stats to look smart

  • 10: Although Dallas ranks near the bottom in shots taken, a lot of those shots are considered “great” in terms of scoring probability. Dallas’ 10 shots with an xG value of .35 or better are more than all but one Western Conference team.
  • 53: On the other end of that spectrum is the Sounders, who have taken a Western Conference high 53 shots that are considered “poor” by the same metric, meaning they had an xG value of .05 or worse.

Tactics to impress

  • Few teams seem to want the ball less than Dallas, whose entire game plan seems to be designed around absorbing pressure and getting on the counter. They aren’t exactly built to be great defensively though, so there is reason to think they can be broken down.
  • Although the Sounders tend to want the ball and will likely end up with a big possession advantage in this game, they must find a way to get into the open field. That’s been one of their biggest problems this year, but hopefully the return of Jordan Morris will help.
