Quotes
Brian Schmetzer
"It’s a hamstring. We won’t know the severity of it. We’ll check him out when he gets home. He doesn’t think it’s that bad. But he felt something."
"When he make subs you hope good things happen. I brought some players on in second half. They were obviously came out in second half and were on the front foot. We tried to counter that with some fresh legs and they just kept rolling. They had a lot of momentum in the second half."
"I’m going to make a decision now, that’s now on me. When it’s that tight to 18y box. We’re supposed to go to tippy toes, they’re not supposed to jump. The geometry of a guy that close is very slim. That’s why I don’t put a guy on the wrong. But they jumped as high as they could and credit to Mihailovic for a smart soccer play. That’s on me."
"They played the same, they played direct. They lumped the ball long and went for seconds. The one thing I thought about is they were causing some problems with the 4-2 press. I would maybe play through that different. i don’t think they changed tactics, but I think we could have. We were too sloppy in our possession and gave them the momentum. I just don’t think we were very sharp. The way we want to play out of the back, Colorado caused some problems with their press."
"It’s hard to win on the road. You take every win on the road with joy. A point on the road is also very good. To survive to go ahead, the goal we scored was reat, great pass by Jesus, quality pass from kalani, three goals in three games is a record for that kid. To grab a point is OK."
"He is tough as nails. He is good. He got knocked down a couple of times. I thought his performance was good."
"Just good service and life or death in penalty box. That’s more a function of making sure clearances are good. Teams are always going to put you under pressure on corner kicks. I thought we managed that ok. That’s just duels inside the 18."
"We talked about possession. We walked through everything. You can draw it on blackboard but players have to execute. Credit to an energized Colorado team. A point on the road is good. We’re on 13 points but we’re only three out of second. I think that’s a positive coming out of this game."
Cristian Roldan
"I think Colorado brought. Different intensity to be fair to them. I thought they did a good job of pressing us more effectively and being more direct. For us, we were just too stagnant. We went to the same things, didn’t try to change things up. It’s a tough place to play once you get gassed. That’s what we saw in second half. We needed some good goalkeeping and it’s unfortunate. It’s felt like Colorado were just far more intense and took it to us."
"It’s a good team and guys step up just like us. We had some injuries too. Their goalie played well. The one thing we talked about was getting shots off and putting pressure on him. those are things we talked about. I thought they played well, I felt like we survived at times. In the end, it’s a road point and seven points in three games I’ll take that right now."
"Set pieces were tough today. They did a good job of serving a good ball and making good runs and picks. Stef is Stef and he saves us a whole lot throughout year. We also have one off the line early in game. At times we survived. That’s part of playing on the road. Not every game is going to be pretty, not every game is going to be perfect. How can we keep that 1-0 lead? But we made some plays in the defensive third."
"There was discussion in that moment. Maybe our wall should have stayed on our tippy toes if we weren’t going to have a guy on the field. We talked about. If we’re going to jump that high we need to have a guy there moving forward."
"We didn’t train it as much as we should have. Those situations don’t happen as much as you think we’ve not really trained it. When something like this happens you end up discussing it a lot more. It’s one of those things where we didn’t pre-decide it prior and so you’re making a split decision."
Kalani Kossa-Rienzi
"It’s one of the things we’ve been talking about in practice, just getting that rotation. I felt like during this game, they were pressing really well and it was hard for us to build out and find our flow. We ended up going long a lot. It was tough to create from one side of the field to the other. Getting Jesus on the ball in the pockets has always been really good. When I saw Jesus on the opposite side, I know he likes to turn and play those through balls. I just turned my head and ran. Me and moose have been talking about that ball for weeks now. There was one earlier in the game that I played from deeper. I told him I would just rip it across the front of the post. It ended up working out well."
"Obviously it feels good. We all work so hard to get on the field and get in the game. Seeing that pay off feels good. But it’s also about consistency and making sure it doesn’t just happen once. It pushes the team in general, it keeps practice competitive, games competitiove. It makes it so you have al little more fire under you. It’s just a bit more competitive and guys wanting it a little bit more. You know you’re pushing the guy. In the long run it’s going to be really helpful for us and you can count on other guys, not just the main 10-11 guys. For now it’s keeping everything competitive."
"It’s good to see him. We all like josh. I got pretty close to him. For everybody it’s good to see guys especially hen they’ve been at the club so long."
