Following a frustrating loss in their last match, Seattle Reign returned back home this weekend to host the Orlando Pride. It was always going to be a tough match against the defending NWSL Shield winners and champions, and several injuries to key Reign players made the matchup even more difficult.
While a young Reign lineup put the Pride under significant pressure — especially in the second half — the Reign were stopped repeatedly by Orlando goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse and couldn’t find the back of the net. A lone goal scored by Barbra Banda in the 41st minute gave the Pride a 1-0 win.

Quotes
Laura Harvey
Her thoughts on the game:
“Overall thoughts on today’s match ... First of all, I said to the players at the end: sometimes in life you don’t get what you deserve. I thought we deserved more than the result in the end. So yeah, really proud of the group. We changed shape, they bought in, they believed in it. We knew their strengths, we wanted to counteract that. I think we did a good job of that, and we created enough opportunities to at least get a point out of the game. So really proud of them.”
On how Ainsley McCammon did in the midfield:
“She wasn’t on her own. We had a lot of young, inexperienced players on the field. I thought her and Sam [Meza] were excellent. I thought they did a great job. I think we asked a lot of them – one, the physical amount we ask of them, but secondly, you know, who they’re playing against. I thought Sam Meza was excellent. I thought Ainsley did a good job. I thought honestly everyone did well, so I think I just said to the group at the end there: one, you didn’t get what you deserved, but secondly, that has to be the standard that we set ourselves. We didn’t show that in LA, so that’s the key now. How do we push on from here if that’s our standard? We can’t let ourselves drop from that, and we can’t stay where we are. We’ve got to kick on and push on.”
Maddie Dahlien and Sam Meza
On what her teammates told her after the match:
Maddie Dahlien: “I think it was just a little more difficult because I thought we outplayed them, and so I think we didn’t deserve the loss, and so that hurts extra worse. And then also that opportunity I had, I wanted that one back a little bit, and Jordyn and others came up to me and said that it’s going to come, and I just need to keep shooting. Obviously, I wanted that chance back, but to take it into the next game and have it as a chip on my shoulder.”
On her mentality in the midfield without Jess Fishlock and Ji So-yun:
Sam Meza: “Obviously, you know, it is a big loss not having players like Jess and Ji, but I think ultimately you have to be ready always. So I think that was just kind of my role today – just knowing that I have to take that responsibility and just kind of try and be good energy and good vibes out on the field, and yeah, it was an amazing experience for me.”
