RENTON — Day 2 of Ryan Kent’s introduction to the Seattle Sounders went about as well as could be hoped.
A day after he joined his teammates in short-sided games, the Sounders expanded into some 11v11 training sessions. Kent lined up with the ostensible second-team as one of the two 10s in the 3-4-2-1 setup that the Sounders have mostly used this year.
Kent was nothing short of impressive. He showed off some clever footwork in tight spaces and scored two well-taken goals, one off each foot. In short, he looked like a player who might be ready to contribute in actual games sooner than later.
“He’s a quality player,” Sounders midfielder Albert Rusnák said when asked about Kent. “You look at the teams he’s played for, those are quality teams.
“His first impression with us is really good. He’ll only get better the more he trains and once he plays some real minutes. He’ll be a good addition to the team.”
Near full fitness
In addition to Kent training effectively in full, Pedro de la Vega was also close to all-in. Speaking to KJR on Tuesday, Sounders head coach Brian Schmetzer deemed de la Vega “50/50” to participate against San Diego FC on Saturday. Jordan Morris was only slightly more limited in training, but is likely another week away from returning.
De la Vega has been out since injuring his quad against LAFC on March 8 and was originally expected to miss 4-6 weeks. Morris hurt his hamstring on March 13 and was also supposed to miss 4-6 weeks.
Danny Musovski on the side
A day after leaving the training pitch a bit early, Danny Musovski was training on the side. When asked about Musovski’s health on Tuesday, Schmetzer said the striker was dealing with some bumps and bruises.
